FAQ’s on Float Therapy
-
Floatation Therapy was invented by Dr. John C. Lily who was an American physician, neuroscientist, psychoanalyst, psychonaut, philosopher, writer and inventor.
-
We generally provide everything you need (earplugs, towels, shampoo & body wash). You may wish to bring a brush, bathing suit, and a safe place to put glasses or contact lenses while you are in the tank. We provide a post float room complete with a make up station, blowdryer and mirror.
-
A. We recommend the following to all floaters both new and experienced:
– Do not drink caffeine (coffee, tea, pop or sports drinks) 3 hours prior to floating
– Do not shave any body parts the day of floating as the salt water can irritate freshly shaven skin
– Eat a light meal 1 hour to 90 minutes prior to floating
-
Absolutely! Floating provides a gravity free environment which is great for pregnant women. This unique position helps relieve the weight of the baby on the mother and is great for those suffering from lower back pain. It is recommended that a physician be consulted if you have any concerns or are in your third trimester of pregnancy.
-
Yes, simply follow the same protocol you would for a swimming pool.
-
Another benefit of these pods is that you control your environment. Even people with extreme claustrophobia have reported no problems during their float. You may choose to leave the door open or close it when you begin to feel comfortable.
-
The water in our pods is extremely buoyant so it is very possible that you could fall asleep. Some people love to sleep during their float and you should feel free to do the same.
-
We recommend that you gain experience at the 1 hour mark before increasing your time. Once you are familiar with the pods than we can discuss an increase in time.
-
Our float rooms are completely private so you can feel secure about leaving your items beside the pod while you float.
-
The pod doors are 100% in your control, you may get out at anytime without reason. Keep in mind however that the 60 minutes usually goes by a lot quicker than you can imagine.
-
Absolutely not! The magnesium sulfate actually makes your skin extremely silky soft. You will, however, absorb some of the Epsom salt so we recommend drinking plenty of water after you float. A water dispenser is available in our waiting area for your convenience.
-
The water is fully filtered 3-5 times between each float, which is passed through an intricate filtration system. The high concentration of magnesium sulfate and small amount of disinfectant make it cleaner than a pool and nearly impossible for microorganisms to survive.
-
While there is no guarantee that the salt won’t strip some colour from your hair, we recommend that you check if the water running through your hair in the shower at home is fully clear. If there is still some color coming out you should wait a couple of more days/showers. We suggest that you talk to your hairdresser about doing this.
